Melody Fairchild is arguably the best female high school female distance runner in the history of the United States. She was the first high school girl to break 10 minutes for two miles (9:55), 3rd in the World Junior XC championships in Antwerp, Belgium, two time Footlocker XC champion and current course record holder, 8-time Colorado State champion and state record holder.
Melody is living her Dream of creating an inspiring, challenging and life-changing experience for high school girls in the mountains of Colorado. A native of the mountains west of Boulder, CO, the inspiration and challenge these mountains provided her as a young girl led her to state, regional, national and international titles and records.
Melody recently won the Collegiate Peaks 25 mile race in May 2010, followed by the 118 mile 6 day Gore-Tex Trans Rockies open women's division in August 2010. Melody announced in September that she has decided to go for a place in the US team for the women's marathon in London Olympics 2012. Read a press release on Melody's announcement here.
Melody has worked with us on several women's running camps, and has a gentle yet impactful approach to coaching. Melody is one of those rare athletes that always runs with a smile on her face - she absolutely loves running and is a phenomenally inspiring athlete. She is also a very humble person and very relaxing to be around. I am delighted to have Melody on the coaching team for Running-Vacations.
